2009 Formula One Season
Hooray - just a few short weeks until the new F1 season kicks off in Melbourne Australia. Heres hoping this is the best season ever! There are a good number of changes/ possible changes to teams, the F1 race calendar and the rules and regs.
Calendar Changes
- Abu Dhabi: it was recently announced that there will a brand new F1 race at the Yas Island Circuit, although it was supposed to take place in October 2009, there has been no confirmation.
- The Suzuka race track is back for 2009, the Japanese grand prix will now alternate between the Fuji raceway and Suzuka.
- New races from 2010 in Delhi, India and at the Korean International Circuit in South Korea.
- Canadian Grand Prix dropped for 2009, due to financial problems, also no US Grand Prix.
- French Grand Prix dropped for 2009, again financial problems. The first time there has been no grand prix in France since 1955!
- Chinese Grand Prix moved forward to April and some general reshuffling of the others...

Rule Changes
- "KERS" or Kinetic Energy Recovery System introduced. This translates as a braking device that stores dissapated energy from braking and stores this energy in a battery which, within certain limits, can be used as additional acceleration at the driver/teams discretion.
- Slick Tyres are back - first time they have been allowed since 1998. Bridgestone will manufacture.
- Driver adjustable bodywork, this means certain elements of bodywork, in front of the front wheels, can have their angle adjusted directly by the driver, up to 6 degrees of angle and a maximum of twice per lap.
- Team budgets introduced from 2009.
F1 Team Changes
- Sebastian Vettel moves from Toro Rosso to Red Bull.
- Sebastien Buemi moves from Formual 2 into the Toro Rosso team.
- David Coulthard has retired and has become the Red Bull test driver as well as doing some commentary work.
- Jensen Button continues to await resolution of the Honda team sale.
