Piquet Jr., the son of three-time Formula One World Champion Nelson Piquet, has graduated to a race seat in the ING Renault F1 Team after completing a year as test driver in 2007. The Brazilian also got his start in karting, driving from 1993 to 2000 before joining the South American F3 in 2001 and winning the tournament the following year. In the 2005 and 2006 seasons he raced in the GP2 Series, finishing in 2nd place in the 2006 season. Piquet joined Renault later that year as a test driver, which is often a springboard to becoming a competition driver. |
