F1 Memorabilia and Teamwear at Grandprixthreads.co.ukFormula One (F1) is the most prestigious race series in the world. It consists of 17 races around the world spread over eight months of the year; from March through to November. The top eight drivers in each race gain decreasing numbers of points according to their finishing position. The driver who gains the most points over the season is crowned as World Champion at the end of the year.
Formula One memorabilia is widely available; ranging from magazines and autographs to signed race suits. It is possible to buy almost anything you like with an F1 connection; pens, car stickers, mouse mats, mugs, clothing or scaled models are all available. All of the racing teams sponsor a range of merchandise; including, Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Honda, Force India, Renault, BMW, Toyota, Toro Rosso and Williams. Racing teams such as Ferrari sponsor baseball caps and tee-shirts and anything else imaginable. Key rings of Lewis Hamilton`s racing helmet, McLaren team photographs and BMW jackets are all available. For those with plenty of spare cash, you can even buy a drive in a Formula One car or Lewis Hamilton`s crash helmet. For those searching for a more hands on approach, cross stitch kits of Formula One cars or Lewis Hamilton`s car are available.
Formula One cars are highly developed machines. They are exceptionally powerful and very highly tuned. The cars can travel at speeds of up to 360 km/ph and compete in all weathers. During a race the team has to use two different specifications of dry weather tyres, unless conditions are very wet, although they have access to 14 different sets of tyres. If conditions are really bad and the race starts behind the safety car, all cars must then start on extreme-weather tyres. The teams are allowed to change their engine after each alternate race and a gear box has to last them for four races. A Formula One team is estimated to spend around £200million in a season and consists of numerous people. It is not simply the driver and the track side mechanics; the whole team consists of designers, technicians, engineers, managers and sponsors.
In 2008 Lewis Hamilton became the first British Formula One World Champion since Damon Hill in 1996. He has even been immortalised in F1 Cross Stitch in the UK. He became the youngest ever driver to win the championship having narrowly missed the title in 2007. His first season in Formula One was 2007, having risen through the ranks from go-karting as a young boy. He was spotted very early in his career by Ron Dennis (Manager of Team McLaren) and has been nurtured by McLaren to reach the pinnacle of the sport and claim the world championship
